“Faith and Reason”
(September 19th – October 22nd )

Faith and Reason are also intimately juxtaposed. Faith is defined as a confident belief in the truth, value, or trustworthiness of a person, idea, or thing; belief that does not rest on logical proof or material evidence. Reason can be interpreted as the basis or motive for an action, decision, or conviction. A motive to act is therefore a belief to create and a faith in creation. While not completely clear of the painting’s motives and meanings (as I believe they are beyond my faculties; existing in the realm of the collective consciousness) early themes of Christian/Pagan duality remain. However, these new works are more elusive in meaning. The recent abstract paintings prove to be a powerful vehicle of the “multiple image”, leaving numerous interpretations to the audience. The recurring bridge and mask motifs work visually to compose the often heavily textured areas, allowing for the emotional and spiritual gateways to communicate what they will. Previous questions and statements of fear, desire, guilt and morals remain but are now overshadowed by a romantically mysterious vision of life: an acceptance of the enigmatic and the ambivalence of the human experience. Richard Wlodarczak Meet the artist!! The public is invited to attend the reception for Richard Wlodarczak on Thursday, September 22nd, (5pm-8pm) at Art Works Gallery. Please RSVP.
