Wave Energy
Debra Van Tuinen
Art Works Gallery
May 2nd to May 31st, 2009
Opening reception: May 2nd, 2009 4 – 8 pm
Intuitive perception of colors and her surrounding environment are the
key sources of inspiration for the artist. As expression, she translates
the landscape around her into vibrant impressions of color, texture and
memory. The process she uses is both ancient and innovative. Even
though she has worked in a variety of mediums, the ancient technique
wax encaustic has become an important part of her work.
Van Tuinen has always been close to the aesthetic perception of life.
She studied arts at the Byam Shaw Arts Academy in London. Her
worldwide experiences gave her the opportunity to work with
internationally known artists such as the glass artist Dale Chihuly. With
him, she had the chance to work on a collaborative effort with the
Seattle Opera. Other than that, Van Tuinen’s constant seek for
inspiration has drawn her to eastern Washington, Idaho, Banff Alberta,
British Columbia & the Oregon and California coasts, Monet's gardens at
Giverny, and the islands of Fiji.
"The work evokes a tone ranging from Whistler of Rothko,
and it acts to invite our contemplation and meditation."
John Spike, Critic and Director of the Florence Biennale.
