Mind, Body & Soul is a three artist exhibition on view at
225 Smithe Street from May 24th to July 9th. Featured is the most recent artwork of:
Montreal’s Eva Lapka, Kelowna’s Bill Bragg, and Vancouver based Riyadh
Hashim.
Through a wide variety of media including oil and acrylic on canvas, raku and stoneware sculpture the principles of the spiritual and traditional surface. Yet, the work is contemporary in every sense. Each artist, in his/her individual technique unfolds the creation of the
Mind, Body & Soul in a coded but harmonious language.
Artist Eva Lapka’s figurative stoneware sculptures – especially the black and white wall reliefs - and Bill Bragg’s large oils on canvas – each an enigmatic figure study - encompass classical tendencies with a modern sensibility. Riyadh Hashim’s abstract work of textural acrylic on canvas embodies the energy of rough, kenetic brushstrokes and strong colours resulting in a present perspective.
