This March Wayne Leidenfrost
exhibits his latest work titled After Hours.
I once read that Picasso refused to allow clocks in his studio. Time was the one thing he could not buy or control. There never seems to be enough time. We all lead busy lives. Work is hectic and family demands keep us running from place to place. I continually think about painting. Making doodles and notes to myself. Gathering photos at every opportunity, and mentally filing ideas for future paintings. Someone once told me, "If you love to do something, you always find the time." I love to paint, but finding time is difficult. I used to be a streak painter. Taking a theme, I would work through all the nuances from painting to painting. One idea, and many variations. Time has changed my approach. I now bounce from idea to idea. From theme to theme. Some days it's all about detail. Other days the brushstrokes become almost abstract. The day's events determine my mood, and I have many. In the early evening, things start to wind down. The phone stops ringing. Family settle in for the night. My head spinning with ideas, snippets of sketches, and interesting colour combinations, I head for the studio. It's quiet. Just the stereo. I close the door. And I paint. Because I want to, because I have to, because I love to. I have found the time to paint...after hours. Wayne Leidenfrost
