“FIGURA” (February 6th – March 4th, 2006)

Art Works Gallery presents an impressive collection of artwork by gallery artists. Exhibition runs from February 6th to March 4th.

Bill Bragg mesmerizes the viewer by using strong sweeping strokes of the palette knife to build his thick gestural figures. Bragg’s desire is to create tactile objects on a dynamic surface. Focusing on the pigments and the way they place themselves on the canvas, Bragg’s use of colour and texture create an atmosphere of romance and spiritualism.

Adam Finli’s upbringing offers a unique element to his work. He was raised on an estate in South Africa. He spent much of his time learning woodworking techniques, primarily traditional wooden masks. His father had a government position which allowed him the opportunity to travel to Italy, Germany, France and England from the ages of fifteen to seventeen. This exposure impacted Adam greatly. When the family first arrived in Italy, Adam’s father focused on teaching him the basics of painting at the age of eleven. He has been consistently painting since then. The richness of culture and exposure to the museums and architecture offers subtleties to his work today. Adam was recognized at an early age for his skill and depth as a painter.

Kimberly Geisheimer’s colourful figuratives stand against an equally colourful background of dark blues, purples and yellows. In the last five years Geisheimer has been consistently developing a distinct and recognizable style particularly through her portrait paintings. The thick flowing lines which encase the figures are simple, the eyes are large and exaggerated, the background, detail, and colours, are secondary to the spirited mood evoked through the person(s) in her paintings.
