“The Big Picture” (April 10^th – May 27^th, 2006)
 

Art Works Gallery presents an impressive collection of artwork by gallery artists. (April 10 – May 27)

The Big Picture, the vastness of nature and open spaces, is explored in this month’s exhibition. The richness of colour shows the extent of the visual. The composition is captured in lush landscapes and complex abstracts. The elements merge to perform a visual ‘Big Picture’. The gallery artists display movement, harmony and complexity in their realistic, expressionistic and abstract compositions of colour and light.

A few of the artists in this Exhibition are:

	Leslie Poole’s paintings, drawings, and prints question rather than tell; his intention is a dialogue with the viewer. With subjects as diverse as male and female figures, still life, landscape, and self-portraits, his methods range from realist to expressionist in style.
	Margaret Devenyi’s earliest artistic training began in Hungary under the tutelage of internationally known artist Jeno Benedek. She also studied at the University of Natural Sciences in Budapest. Devenyi left her native Hungary in 1957 and moved to British Columbia, Canada. After settling in Victoria, she continued her artistic training under Duncan de Kergommeaux and Herbert Siebner and taught at Victoria College. Devenyi, through her work, conveys the temperament of the South of France and recreates the energy and contentment she experiences in her journeys.
	Everything in Ken Prescott’s work evolves from papers covered with paint that start out on the studio floor and are later "assembled" to form a likeness. They then become an integral part of the collage as portions are removed from the paper they were painted on and placed in the context demanded by the specific work.
